Basher's Ride began in August 2006 as a tribute to Lt. Brian S. Ashe
of the Lowell Fire Dept. Born in Brooklyn N.Y. in October of 1954, he
settled in the city of Lowell as a young child where he graduated
from Lowell High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air
Force.   Returning home with an interest in public service, he
became a deputy sheriff with the Middlesex County Sheriff's
Department before becoming a Firefighter with the Lowell Fire
Department where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.  Basher served
as the officer on Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 7, Ladder 2, Ladder 3
and Rescue 1. Prior to his passing, he was assigned to Engine 6.  He
also served as Lowell F.D.'s E.M.S. co-ordinator where he worked to
unify the city's E.M.S. and Fire response services.  He also worked
briefly as an EMT with the city's E.M.S. service.  All proceeds from
Basher's Ride are donated to various Firefighter and E.M.S. based
charities.
2009 Basher’s Ride Beneficiary

In Basher's honor and memory, we have chosen an awesome 8 yo to be the recipient of
the
Basher's Ride proceeds for 2009.  Adam Couture is suffering from Juvenile
Chronic Renal Insufficiency.  Adam will be undergoing his second kidney transplant in 3
years this spring.  Mom Janine has had to quit her job in order to care for Adam, and
take him to dialysis 3 times a week. The financial stress on this family has been
devastating, and the bills are sure to continue to roll in.

I am especially appreciative of the Basher's Ride Board selecting Adam as he is my
nephew.  I've had the difficult experience of watching this little boy go through his short
life with such distress, but nonetheless, the innocence of a child.  He looks to us for
hope, and hope we shall give him!

Will look forward to seeing you all on August 8, 2009 for the 4th Annual
Basher's Ride honoring Adam Couture.

Much love, Dirty
