Basher's Ride began in August 2006 as a tribute to Lt. Brian S. Ashe
of the Lowell Fire Dept. Born in Brooklyn N.Y. in October of 1954, he
settled in the city of Lowell as a young child where he graduated
from Lowell High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air
Force.   Returning home with an interest in public service, he
became a deputy sheriff with the Middlesex County Sheriff's
Department before becoming a Firefighter with the Lowell Fire
Department where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.  Basher served
as the officer on Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 7, Ladder 2, Ladder 3
and Rescue 1. Prior to his passing, he was assigned to Engine 6.  He
also served as Lowell F.D.'s E.M.S. co-ordinator where he worked to
unify the city's E.M.S. and Fire response services.  He also worked
briefly as an EMT with the city's E.M.S. service.  All proceeds from
Basher's Ride are donated to various Firefighter and E.M.S. based
charities.
2008 Basher’s Ride Beneficiary

In Basher's honor and memory, we have chosen an unbelievable 18 yo to be the
recipient of the
Basher's Ride proceeds for 2008.  Joey Altobelli, of Bethelehem NH,
was diagnosed  a short year ago with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of malignant
cancer.  Joey continues to endure endless hours of intense, painful treatments at Mass
General Hospital.  MGH is one of only five hospitals in the United Sates that has the
machine to administer specialized proton beam therapy. Many of his prescriptions are
not covered by insurance, and the cost of transportation and accommodations on a
weekly basis for he and his Mom, Karen, have become overwhelming.

Joey is not unfamiliar with the riding community, as many of his family members ride.
Most especially though, he is not unfamiliar with the Firefighter community.  Joe's Uncle
is Pat Driscoll of the Lawrence Fire Department, and also the President of The
Lawrence Firefighters Local 146 Union.

Will look forward to seeing you all on August 9, 2008 for the 3rd Annual
Basher's Ride honoring Joe Altobelli.

Much love, Dirty
